Thatta is a popular tourist destination in the east Karachi. The place is known for its historical and archaeological sites and riches. Thatta originated as a small settlement in the bank of river Indus in the medieval era. Later it flourished as the capital city of Sind in the ancient times. It was a popular trading post and a center of Islamic arts and culture. Thatta had been witness to rise and fall of several dynasties in its long years of history. It was emperor Jam Nizamuddin or Jam Ninda of the Samma Dynasty (866 to 1461) who led to the economic and cultural flourish of Thatta.

Necropolis on the Makla Hill is a popular tourist visiting place of Thatta. Pilgrims from all over the world come to pay homage to the graves of the saints buried here. The Great Mosque established by Moghul emperor Shahjahan is another most visiting site of Thatta. The magnificent domes and tile architecture awe inspire the tourists. Other popular tourist places are Chaukandi tombs and Kalri Lake. The bazaars offer a glimpse of the local art works and crafts. The glass bangles, Sindi embroideries, mirror works attract the shop loving tourists.
